- Statistics Canada and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Release Results of Business Survey on the Impacts of the COVID-19 Pandemic. -

Statistics Canada officially released data collected through the Canadian Survey on Business Conditions (CSBC) regarding the impact of COVID-19 on businesses on issues such as revenues, employees and the workplace, access to credit, changes to how businesses interact with customers and other insights.

The released data tables are available to all Canadians, including members of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. The interactive tool allows users to filter information at the national level, as well as by province and territory, by industrial sector, by employment size, by type of business, and by majority ownership.

As COVID-19 continues to disrupt economies around the world, it is essential to have current data to fully understand the extent of the impact on businesses in Canada, and for making informed decisions in the weeks and months ahead.

Through collaboration between Statistics Canada and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and its vast network of businesses and business associations and coalitions, including the Canadian Business Resilience Network, the Canadian Survey on Business Conditions (CSBC) was able to measure and improve understanding of the impacts of COVID-19 on businesses and obtain quality data to inform decision making.

"Today's official release of the data collected from thousands of Canadian business owners represents the innovative and unprecedented solutions needed to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. The unique partnership and collaboration between our two organizations demonstrate what can be achieved when organizations work together to provide the insights needed to navigate the way forward. Through this collaboration we have advanced our collective ability to better understand the issues and challenges faced by Canadian businesses. Today's results will provide an accurate picture of true impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Canadian economy and will enable the best decisions at public and private sector tables across the country," – Anil Arora, Chief Statistician of Canada.

"The survey is Canada's first detailed view into how our businesses are adapting, managing or, sadly, failing as the COVID-19 shutdown continues. Insights from more than 12,500 businesses brings into focus the time constraints that businesses face before closing their doors permanently, critical information for the government as they evolve their programs. At the same time, the survey shows how quickly businesses, for those that can, are adapting to social distancing and getting ready for the re-opening of the economy," said Jackie King, Chief Operating Officer at the Canadian Chamber.

Statistics Canada has continuously prioritized work under exceptional operating conditions. The agency has adapted by accelerating its processes for the collection, production and release of urgently needed insights required to respond to, and recover from, the social and economic impacts of this pandemic.
