- Excitement Builds As Thousands Prepare To Celebrate Music Monday With A Cross-Country Sing-Along To Raise Awareness For Music Education -

On Monday, May 5, 2025 Coalition for Music Education will celebrate Music Monday, a nationwide celebration that unites Canadians in a simultaneous sing-along to emphasize the importance of music education and the unifying power of music. At a time when our nation is seeking connection and togetherness, this event serves as a reminder of the strength we find in community through the arts. This year, Triumphโ€™s iconic anthem Hold On has been selected as the official Music Monday anthem. The Music Monday program will feature a new recording created at Metalworks Studio, showcasing Rik Emmett alongside several children's choirs, totaling over 250 voices. The unveiling of this exciting collaboration is set to take place soon.

Stacey Sinclair, Executive Director of the Coalition for Music Education in Canada, shared her excitement about the collaboration, stating, โ€œWorking with Rik, Gil, and the numerous choirs has been an incredible experience. Hold On is the perfect choice for this yearโ€™s anthem, as it beautifully captures the essence of hope and unity. In a time when Canadians are coming together more than ever, it has been wonderful to witness the enthusiasm surrounding this project and how it has brought everyone closer. The registration for Music Monday is booming, with so many people eager to get involved and celebrate the importance of music education across Canadaโ€.

As we approach this significant event, the power of music to inspire and bring communities together becomes even more evident. Vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Rik Emmett shared his reflections on the emotional impact of seeing children sing his lyrics: โ€œHearing the voices of children singing words I wrote nearly 50 years ago is incredibly moving. Itโ€™s a testament to the timeless nature of music and its profound ability to inspire. I am truly amazed that these lyrics still resonate today, bringing people together in celebration. Being part of this initiative and witnessing the joy it brings to so many is a privilege, and it reinforces just how significant music education is in shaping our communities.โ€

Gil Moore, Triumph drummer and co-vocalist and founder Metalworks Studios, Metalworks Institute and SoundsUnite expressed his enthusiasm about the recording of Hold On at Metalworks Studio, stating, โ€œI am absolutely delighted that the studio I founded is the home for this yearโ€™s Music Monday anthem recording. We are witnessing Canadians come together in unprecedented ways, and itโ€™s heartwarming to see how music from a classic Canadian rock band can play a vital role in uniting our communities. Hold On embodies that spirit of togetherness, and Iโ€™m proud that it will serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of music education in our livesโ€.

Each year, on the first Monday of May, thousands of students, musicians, parents, and community members across the country will simultaneously sing and/or play the Music Monday anthem, creating the world's largest single event dedicated to raising awareness for music education. Music Monday will be observed in many ways across the countryโ€”in school classrooms, special school assemblies, group concerts of area schools, and concerts of community bands and choirs with special events.

With the event date approaching, there is still time for schools and communities to register and participate in this inspiring celebration of music. Registration is free and provides access to teacher resources, numerous audio and video recordings, arrangements, lyric sheets, sing-along video and an Artist Guide & Learning Guide. All registered participants also receive access to numerous online music education sessions released on Music Monday. Participants are invited to register their events at www.musicmonday.ca.
