ONTARIO 🤔💭 Ontario Adds 23,000 Jobs in December

Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, issued the following statement on today’s monthly employment release by Statistics Canada, which showed Ontario added 23,000 jobs to the economy in December, bringing the total number of jobs created in 2024 to more than 200,000.

“Despite an uncertain global economy in 2024, Ontario remained the economic engine of Canada, adding more than 200,000 jobs across key industries, including the automotive, life sciences, tech and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Through targeted investments in skills training, critical infrastructure projects and measures to keep costs down for people and businesses, our government remained focused on supporting Ontario families and workers. Over the past year, these measures have helped attract billions of dollars in new investments and thousands of new jobs with investments from global companies, such as Hitachi Rail, Roche Canada, Goodyear Canada and Asahi Kasei.

Through our Regional Development Program, our government invested over $85 million to support 60 local companies and organizations in eastern and southwestern Ontario, leveraging over $815 million in total investments and creating more than 1,500 jobs.

Looking forward as we continue to face global uncertainty and a new administration in the White House, our government is going to continue to create the environment to attract more investments, better jobs and bigger paycheques. This includes working with our U.S. partners towards achieving free, fair and balanced trade, accelerating resource development and achieving energy security to drive long-term economic growth on both sides of the border.”
