His latest offering, Blackbirds and the Sun of October, released by Sony's new innovative, cross-genres label Sony imprint XXIM, was entirely written and recorded among the hills of Monferrato in Northern Italy, inspired by the sense of freedom, natural beauty, and the rich history surrounding him. The album further demonstrates the artists natural gift for exploring music in all its facets with cinematic instrumental tracks, blending contemporary classical, pop, and electronic ambience, struck an instant chord for their airy, meditative beauty– both for the artist and the audience.

Restlessly creative, Albanese’s ever-evolving quest for new sounds and experimentation has been more extensive than most. After an early childhood playing piano, he became interested in jazz, picking up the clarinet, before a teenage fascination with punk rock bands led to him learning bass guitar. Later still, he devoured the new-age music of the late 90s, immersing himself in the works of artists such as Brian Eno and William Basinski.

Swirling all that together, and having moved to Berlin from his native Italy, Albanese began writing and recording his own material. His debut album, The Houseboat and the Moon (2014), and its follow-up, The Blue Hour were concept albums focused on specific themes and adored by critics and fans alike. He followed them up with similarly revered By The Deep Sea (2018) and Before And Now Seem Infinite (2022), all supported by extensive touring throughout Europe. In September 2023, Federico releases Days of Passage, his debut EP with XXIM Records.

In his childhood Federico practiced the piano and clarinet, whereas as an adolescent he focused on playing the guitar, with which he could establish as a leading protagonist in the underground scene of Milan after studying contrabass. In 2007 he founded the avant-garde-duo "La Blanche Alchimie" with singer-songwriter Jessica Einaudi. With this duo he released three albums, could reach international attention and prospered. Also, as a composer for advertisements, film and television he could achieve a major success. His scores got used for example in the international film production "Shadows In The Distance" (2012), "Alles im grünen Bereich" (2014) or the documentary "Cinema Perverso" (2015) of the television broadcaster ARTE.

Pronounced ‘Twenty-One M’ and headquartered in Berlin, experimentation and collaboration lie at the heart of XXIM’s ethos, with the ultimate goal of providing a strong platform for the creative development of a new generation of artists whose work explores and integrates, among other realms, neo-classical, post-rock, electronic, and ambient sounds. Famed Manchester alt trio GoGo Penguin, Canadian pianist and composer Alexandra Stréliski, Franco-American composer, conductor, producer, and arranger Uèle Lamour, Icelandic pianist, composer and vocalist Eydís Evensen, Icelandic alternative duo Hugar, and Italian pianist and composer Olivia Belli are just a few of the talents that currently call XXIM home.

Blackbird and the Sun of October will be released worldwide by XXIM Records on February 7, 2025.
