«Our garden tells a story of 12-year-old CHANIE WENJACK. In 1966 he ran away from Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School in Kenora, Ontario, and tried to walk home to Ogoki Post - 600 kilometers away.»

The Secret Path knows it is important to acknowledge the foundation treaty that governs the territory. Toronto is in 'Dish With One Spoon'. The Dish With One Spoon is a treaty between the Anishinaabe and Haudenosauneethat bound them to share and protect the land. Indigenous people from elsewhere. the first Europeans and all newcomers have been invited into this treaty in the spirit of peace, friendship and respect. Toronto is the territory of the Huron, Haudenosauneeand, and Anishinaabeg.

Between the early 1800 and 1996, over 150,000 indigenous children were taken from their families. They were sent away to residential schools run by churches and funded by the Canadian government. The children were forbidden to speak their language and practice their culture - they were a force to assimilate into «White Canada».
